What happened in 2024 Part II
Welcome back to part two of what happened in 2024. As I stated in the previous part I would be splitting this into multiple parts as there is a lot to cover and I thought two parts would be death by words and pictures.
In part 2 we will take a look at:
Taking a very lengthy walk along the River Thames
Heading down to the south coast to two seaside destinations
Visiting a motor museums and also a very beautiful location along the coast
A short weekend away to Oxford
We start back in May where I decided to take a very very long stroll down the River Thames from the town of Kingston and walked to my partners studio located in Wandsworth. This journey would be about 17 miles along a very beautiful part of the river, it would pass Richmond, Hammersmith and also my favourite football club Fulham FC. It was a very beautiful walk and I am so very glad that I took it, it really helped with processing the loss of my Dad. The weather was really good, it wasn’t too hot but it was a pleasant temperature to walk in.
Date: 15th May 2024
Located at the start point (Kingston) was this boat house which passengers can take to up and down the river. One of those points that passengers can visit is Hampton Court Palace (which I have done this trip when I was a child)

As many of you know I do love capturing any sort of motor vehicle. This is a converted van which was selling coffee, tea and cakes. I always admire people who make a business from a converted van or a horse box, which my cousin has done to sell her bakes.

This was such a beautiful day to take a nice long walk along the river. It did get warm but everything was so calm and peaceful including the water of the river.

I hadn't walked this part of the river before and I was blown away by the beautiful houses that have the river as there garden. I wasn’t sure if this somones’s house or if this was a care home.
Date: 15th May 2024
Located by a small lock I came across this beautiful Land Rover Defender. I couldn’t miss the opportunity of capturing the car which was parked against the green bushes.
Date: 15th May 2024
Another beautiful example of the houses that you could come across while walking along the Thames. I really loved the deign of this house and that it also had a dock where the home owners had their own boat.

As it was deep into spring time there was so much beautiful wildlife out in full force. As I was approaching Richmond I came across this cute bumble bee collecting some nectar from a small flower.
Date: 15th May 2024
This was a contender as one of my favourite photos of the year but it rapidly got put further down due to much better photos. I really like how calm and peaceful this photo is with what id like to think a mum and daughter quality time.

Now in the town of Richmond there was this beautiful hotel embedded into the hill surrounded by full of colour of the trees. For me looking back at this you wouldn't think that this is in England and feels like it’s in a different country.

Beautiful church tower in a small little village.
Date: 15th May 2024
Talking of being blown away while walking along the river I really wasn’t expecting to come across this picturesque small village. London truly has some hidden gems. There is more to than just the main city, you will find something like this. You would think this is in the countryside and not less than 10 miles from the busy city.
Date: 15th May 2024
I was confused on what this was and carried on walking and found out that this was Kew Gardens (which still to this day i’ve not visited). Something you may have seen from a lot of photos is that they are shot in landscape mode instead of portrait. I have been experimenting in doing more cinematic style shots.
Date: 15th May 2024
I have now entered Hammersmith which was about 10 miles or just over 10 miles from Kingston. I will say this to anyone I would highly recommend walking along the river it’s such a beautiful journey. Anyway what I didn’t realise near Hammersmith there is this massive tower. I found so many new buildings and gems that I didn’t know about.
Date: 15th May 2024
One thing you will come across once you get closer to the main city is the style of bridges. This one Chiswick Bridge is one of the more well known and iconic with its mini suspension bridge style.
Date: 15th May 2024
A football team I have been supporting since I was a child and very fortunate that it’s closer to me and I am able to go to games (when I am not working) Fulham FC Craven Cottage is one of the oldest football teams in the world and has the iconic cottage located in one corner. It had a revamp on the riverside to have a modern stand and it actually looks really nice against the beautiful river backdrop.

Small trip to London
My brother and I was heading to London specifically the Royal Albert Hall to watch Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark live in concert. It was my birthday present to my brother as he loves Indiana Jones. While we was up there beforehand I took my camera and captured a few pictures. I have been really liking doing more landscape shots instead of taking them in portrait. I think thats because I wanted to try and get more cinematic style shots. As time goes on I have a specific style of crop that works and makes it look more cinematic.
Sticking with the theme of capturing more Wes Anderson style underground photos. Located outside the entrance of Gloucester Road I was able to capture the three archways including all three name plates of the stations name.

In the posher area of London, the borough of Kensington and Chelsea you will always see a nice car or two. Now would you class this as a nice car?? I mean it’s a luxury car which has a smooth ride but if we are talking about a nice car we are talking about a Ferrari or Bugatti. Located outside a beautiful house was this Jaguar and I waited until no one was in the picture.
Date: 26th May 2024
We had some time to still kill after lunch before we could enter the Royal Albert Hall. We came across this beautiful old MG and it was a thing of beauty especially in the sun. The red paint scheme really suited the car very well.

Located opposite the Royal Albert Hall is a beautiful gold statue which is the Albert statue.
Now I will add a disclaimer this has been photoshopped and edited to have no people in except my brother. It was a busy Sunday so of course there was people originally in the photo.

Symmetry has been something I have been working on in 2024 and I am so glad that this one came out the way it did. I wanted to find the right spot and I kept moving side to side to make sure that the statue lined up in the middle of my camera screen.

To me one of the most beautiful buildings not just in the UK but also the world. I love the colours, the design of the building. It is the best place to go and watch a concert be it a live artists, a night at the proms or maybe watch a film being played by a live orchestra.
Date: 26th May 2024
When we headed home we had to get off at Fulham Broadway and this gave me an opportunity to capture another station in the Wes Anderson style. I love being able to capture these stations in a different way to other photographers. This year has been the biggest year for London Underground photography.

A day of exploring…
In the month of June I decided to just have exploring days,. it took me to many different and exciting places that i’ve not really been too. We start with this trip where I started off at Bracknell Forest (which I have been to many times before) I wanted to capture a forest area as I have not really focused on that area as much, but thats also due to having not many tall forests located around me in London.
After finishing in Bracknell Forest I took a little drive down towards Windsor and wanted to explore Windsor more. I was able to capture some pictures ive always wanted to capture.
Later on after Windsor I drove to Heathrow to the famous Myrtle Avenue. This is a plane spotters dream when the aircraft fly over the top. I won’t be putting the pictures in the blog but you can find those pictures located in the portfolio section of the website.
I said to myself while I was at Heathrow I wonder if I could see the Boeing 747’s located at Dunsfold Aerodrome because they house two British Airways 747’s. So from Heathrow I drove over there and sadly I coudln’t stop but I saw them in the distance.
After taking that trip to Dunsfold I decided to take a drive just along the South Downs and went through some very beautiful areas. I ended up near the coast of Brighton. I also visited a place called Devils Dike which is a look out area with a vantage point over the South Downs.
Overall this little trip out was really fun and I kind of got a bug to do more of it again (which I did)
Oh I do love to be beside the seaside
My partner and I took a lovely trip down to Brighton for the day. We hadn’t been in a while and I know she loves the coast and the beach. We explored the pier, walked around the Brighton Lanes which my partner really enjoyed as she’s a jeweller she was just admiring the different styles of jewellery. It was a really nice calm day and nice to be away from the city and just step back.
Day trip round 2…
In this day trip it was a very ambitious one for sure. It started off with the plan to go to Beaulieu Motor Museum which is located in the New Forest. I haven’t been for a long time and at the time I purchased the Sigma 50mm ƒ1.4 lens so I really wanted to try that out with the cars. After I finished up at the museum I decided how far it was to Durdle Door… So lo and behold I headed over to Durdle Door after. As I was driving it started to get a bit wet but I was still determined to travel there and capture the beautiful rock arch.
What I didn’t realise was how steep the hill is from the car park down to see where the archway is. Especially in the wind I felt like I was going to be blown down the hill, but you are greeted by a very beautiful view.
Sticking with the Wes Anderson style of photos I came across these row of deckchairs that luckily didn’t have anyone in them. I wanted to standing directly opposite the middle one to make that the centre subject.

The iconic Brighton Pier, this is probably of the most famous in the UK alongside Southend which has the longest pier in the world.
Date-4th June 2024
Luckily while was in Brighton it was warm and sunny and wasn’t the typical British weather. Clouds for me always helps with photos alongside spots of blue skies.

What would turn out to be in met favourite photos of 2024 and also into the exclusive category of favourite photos of all time. This Helter Skelter is located at the end of the pier. When it came to editing I wanted to make it stick out with the bold colours but also adding some vignetting to make you focus on the subject.
Date-4th June 2024
Brighton back in the day had another pier but sadly this one git burnt down and you can still see the remains of it located on the sea front. I love the abandon-ness of the pier.
Date-4th June 2024
Located next to the newer pier in Brighton there is this weird donut shape and still to this day I am not sure what this actually symbolise’s.

Beaulieu Motor Museum
Date-13th June 2024
One of the oldest car companies in the world. Ford created the Model T which was a very significant car in the history of motoring.
Date-13th June 2024
Located in the main hall of the museum is this wall of very fast cars such as formula one cars like this one above which is a McLaren which was driven by Lewis Hamilton and the rest was history for his formula one career.
Date-13th June 2024
I have grown up watching formula one when I was a child and watching Michael Schumacher in the famous red Ferrari. The sound of these cars were peak noise and you get a sense of adrenaline just even looking at these cars.

It’s another photo added to the favourite photos of 2024, this old Lotus formula one car that houses a ford engine. As I have been badgering on about during this year is my style of photos which is landscape. When I came to editing I wanted to really make the yellow really bold and stick out.

Also in the museum you can find motor bikes which there is a massive following for bikers. I don’t tend to follow motor bikes but I definitely like the look of some of the older bikes and the sound they make.

The VW Golf GTI which is still to this day one of the best selling road cars. They are practical and they also are used for upgrading and modifying to make it even faster, it’s a bit of a bit racer car and still is in 2024.

The famous flying car ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’
Date-13th June 2024
If you say to me iconic British classic car, you would think maybe Aston Martin DB5 or the classic Mini Cooper, oh no nothing gets more classic than the Jaguar E Type. Nothing looks more elegant than this beautiful car. When I walked around the museum I loved doing headlight photos.
Date-13th June 2024
Talking of iconic cars but this time we are talking about iconic car liveries. The Gulf livery was prominent during racing events and still is used now in 2024. The Gulf livery was used on cars such as this beautiful Porsche 917, it was also used on the beautiful Ford GT40.

I should say that when I was walking around the museum I was using the Sigma 50mm ƒ1.4 to get those sharp details in the cars. I love the look of this photo because it makes it look like it’s in a garage and getting ready to race on the track. The beautiful colours of the blue with the hit of orange down the roof of the car which works very well together.

The small and cute shape of the Austin Seven Mini. This was a symbol of the 1960s and was one of the biggest selling cars in history. Its small shape means it could get around crowded and small places. The mini was also used in the famous 1969 film The Italian Job.

Durdle Door
When I arrived to Durdle Door you wouldn’t guess that it was raining while I was there but it was, when it came to editing I really wanted to make this colourful with both the rocks formation and also the rough seas.

This looks like it’s from the white cliffs of Dover but this is part of the beautiful Jurassic Coast. When I came to editing these photos I really wanted to get closer to the colour grading of the film Dunkirk. I know the colours are a little more brighter but I love the look of the colours from that film.

One of the most famous natural wonders in the UK is the archway at Durdle Door. There is nothing quite like it anywhere else in the UK. This beach does get very busy during the hot summer period but very opposite due to the horrible weather.
Date-13th June 2024
When I was taking this picture I was using the 70-200mm and I zoomed in to give the sense of perspective making the archway look closer than it actually is. The details of the rock on the archway is staggering and I wanted to add some texture in the editing process.

The other famous Univercity city
June time rolled around which meant it was closer to being mine and my partners birthday. Our birthdays are only a day apart her (19th) and mine (20th). My present to my partner was to take her away for the weekend to the beautiful city of Oxford. Both of us had never been before but I have been to other famous university city (Cambridge). We stayed in this really nice motel called ‘Mollies’ which also funny as my partners name is called Molly.

The Beautiful Oxford
It began as a wet start when we got to the city of Oxford but then the sun came out at the right time and i’m so glad that it did. I had visited Cambridge so it was nice to visit the other famous university city. There was so many beautiful architecture around the city and the tanned bricks which make Oxford that little more unique.

Something I have realised is that I hadn’t done too much ‘Hint of colour’ this year but I feel like I haven’t done it for many photos the last couple of years. I think if there is a red telephone box I know I will always convert this edit into a ‘Hint of colour’

We ended up walking through this beautiful inside market which had so many cute stalls and some very yummy food stands as well. Located in a bigger open area within the market was this post box with a rainbow on top. As this was June time it is known as pride month. I knew I would make this a ‘hint of colour’ photo.

Like most big cities in the UK they tend to have a big shopping centre/outlet and as we walking through this modern style shopping centre was these really cool art displays. This was such a cool display to see while walking through the shopping centre and really added a pop of colour into the city.

Onto the next part
We finish part two here and move onto part three of what happened in 2024. The more and more I add into these blogs I realise that it’ll be a multiple part series. In the next part we will be looking at the photos from:
-Another motor museum & also another costal town with a beautiful lighthouse
-Back to RIAT 2024 where the bulk of the photos came from this year.
The next part will be a little shorter because between July and September there wasn’t a huge amount of photography after RIAT. I think I may have stated in part 1 but my California trip will be a separate part series as there is a lot of photos from the trip.
Thank you for reading this part of the blog and I look forward to seeing you in the next part. Feel free to follow my instagram which you can find on my website:
